Stabilize Bowing Terra CottaStabilize bowing terra cotta between Entrance Columns:
Condition: At entrance of building, three bays of terra cotta units (between columns) are hung from embedded internal steel members. Units are deflecting downward indicating corrosion of embedded steel members. These units are a potential falling hazard, particularly due to the unknown state of embedded wall components.
FIX—Short Term: Install galvanized reinforcing mesh anchored to wall with ¼” diameter tapping screws and washers. Reinforcement mesh should be left in place until long term repairs can be installed.
Long Term Recommendation: Remove hung units to expose embedded steel members and repair as necessary. Units above hung course may require removal as well due to bearing on lower members. We recommend long term repairs as soon as possible, but within 1 to 2 years.
Short term repair cost estimate: $15,500
